Built to Last: Why Sustainability at UNTAMD Starts With the Piece Itself

Built to Last: Why Sustainability at UNTAMD Starts With the Piece Itself

Our approach to sustainability begins somewhere fundamental: the piece you wear, and how long it lasts.

Longevity Is the Point

UNTAMD was created to offer something the jewellery market rarely delivers, a responsible alternative that doesn't ask you to compromise. Not fast fashion jewellery designed to be replaced each season. Not traditional fine jewellery with a price
point that puts it out of reach. Something in between, and something better.

Most of our pieces are crafted using 99% recycled metals and finished with 3 microns   of 18k gold vermeil, one of the thickest layers available in the category, and significantly above the industry standard of 2.5 microns.

The result is jewellery that is waterproof, tarnish resistant, and hypoallergenic. Jewellery made to be worn every day, not saved for occasions. Jewellery that does not need to be replaced. That is not a feature. That is our core philosophy.

When a piece is built to last, it does not end up in a drawer after six months. It does not contribute to the cycle of over-consumption that defines so much of fashion today.

It becomes part of how someone dresses, how they move, and how they present themselves for years to come.

Responsibility Beyond the Product

The same mindset that shapes our materials shapes how we run the business.

  • Waste is a clear priority. We work to minimise it across our supply chain, hold our suppliers to defined environmental standards, and embed circularity into our operations wherever we can.
  • Our Supplier Code of Conduct outlines expectations around waste management and responsible disposal practices.
  • We encourage our customers to keep and care for their pieces. That means offering cleaning services, repairs, thoughtful aftercare guidance, and flexible returns. Not because it is good marketing. Because it is the right approach for jewellery that is designed to last.
  • We are also mindful of packaging. Presentation matters at UNTAMD, but not at the cost of excess waste.

Certified. Assessed. Accountable.

Positive Luxury's ESG+ programme, one of the most rigorous independent sustainability assessments available to brands in the luxury industry.

We pursued this certification because we believe our commitments should be independently verified, not self-declared. Our overall score of 90 places us among the highest-performing brands assessed,  outperforming many well-established names in the jewellery category.

Across the three pillars of  Environmental, Social and Governance performance:

  • Environmental: 78% — Good
  • Social: 97% — Excellent
  • Governance: 98% — Excellent

We are proud of this. We are also clear-eyed about it. An assessment is a point in time, not a destination. The score reflects where we are now. The work will continue.

Why Positive Luxury

Positive Luxury works exclusively with the global luxury industry, helping brands move from sustainability promises to measurable proof. Their ESG+ assessment is comprehensive covering climate impact, nature, water, worker treatment, community practices, and ethical governance –benchmarked against international frameworks and global standards.

We chose to work with them because their rigour matches our own expectations of ourselves. Independent certification allows us to build genuine trust with our customers, rather than asking them to take our word for it.

We view sustainability as an ongoing responsibility. Future focus areas include deeper supply chain transparency, continued waste reduction, and increasing the measurability of our environmental impact over time.

UNTAMD believes that elevated design, responsible practice, and longevity are not in tension with one another. They are the same idea.

Made to last. Worn for years. Built with intention.

That is the only kind of jewellery we are interested in making.
